While in Portland we stopped at the Japanese Garden. It is a beautiful spot and I highly recommend stopping there if you can find a parking spot. The Japanese Garden is open year round and has something different to offer in each season. I hope to get back again some day in another season to be able to see the changes.
I will share my pictures from the summer in a moment, but I also wanted to provide a link to Roman Johnston, a fellow photographer's pictures from the Japanese Gardens in the fall. The colours are just stunning and well worth look. Roman is a fabulous landscape photographer as well, so don't be afraid to take some time and browse his other galleries as well. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Now my pictures from the Portland Japanese Garden.
I bet this wisteria arbour is absolutely heavenly when the wisteria is in full bloom.
The Heavenly Falls.
The Moon Bridge.
The Strolling Pond Garden.
The Japanese have crane statues in their gardens because cranes are a common symbol of longevity.
Another view of the Moon Bridge.
The Poetry Stone.
Inscribed on the stone is a haiku which reads: Here, miles from Japan, I stand as if warmed by the spring sunshine of home.
View overlooking the city and Mount Hood.
The Flat Garden. It was designed using a sea of raked sand. The two islands of planting depict a saké cup and gourd-shaped bottle, signifying pleasure and a wish for the visitor's happiness.
