Dead Horse Point State Park

While in Moab, we also to Dad Horse Point State Park.

The legend of Dead Horse Point states that around the turn of the century the point was used as a corral for wild mustangs roaming the mesa top.  Cowboys herded them across the narrow neck of land and onto the point.  The neck was then fenced off with branches and brush.  One time, for some unknown reason, horses were left corralled on the waterless  point where they died of thirst within view of the Colorado River 2,000 feet below.

The blue, blue ponds in the pictures are actually, evaporation ponds which contain potash giving them their colour.

Arches

We were able to spend a couple of days in Moab to explore the amazing red rock landscapes unique to the area.  On the first day we toured through some of Arches National Park.    The size, or just how  magnificent these rock formations is simply amazing.  I do not think that words can do them justice.  I really do recommend seeing them in person if you like this sort of thing at all.

I think this is Park Avenue.  It is a completely amazing, huge rock wall.

You can see one of the windows and the La Sal mountain range off to the right.

Balanced Rock

Garden of Eden, I think...
